Fly High Lil' Bird!

Boyhood, the fantastical exploration into a universe barely discovered a year ago.  Up he grows with days filled with dirt playing, tree scaling, monkey bar climbing & friends chasing, while I look on with great joy & melancholy.  I step aside to give him the space he needs.  This place I will settle into & come to know well while playing spectator to my son who is busy exploring his world.

It was a magical afternoon.  Another trip back from visiting family. Another carpe diem park adventure. We planned to meet friends and picnic under the old oaks in the park.  The day was beautiful, the sun showing off it's yellow ray's in the blue sky.  The Mamas & I sat bearing witness to the inevitable transformation that was taking place with our first borns.  While they were busy balancing on a log, running free in the green field & creating adventures all their own we were busy witnessing them become boys.  What a glorious feeling.  They asked for one another instead of asking for us.  At that moment they didn't need us.  They didn't want us.  They were busy in a world all their own.  A world that simply didn't include Mamas.  So, we did the only thing we could do-we watched like we never watched before, because before we chased, we fed, we burped, we changed diapers and we rocked.  Now, perched on our colorful picnic blankets we welcomed this new form of independence.

How appropriate that such a metamorphosis would take place in the early days of Spring-like a butterfly abandoning it's cocoon our bebe bird's begin to ever so slightly move further away from the nest, building strength in their tiny wings to one day be able to fly.
