Bringing Up Baby-in Brooklyn

Remember that very moment when you learned you were first pregnant? How about the moments that followed - the googling of everything baby? You wanted to figure out the swaddling, the gear, the countless birthing options, sleep options, preschool options! The possibilites seemed endless.

Fret no more good parent, on Saturday April 27th, 2013 all the googling can come to a halt as Brooklyn will be hosting the Brooklyn BabyFEST in Williamsburg. This baby centric gathering will host vendors showcasing their goodies, guest speakers and family friendly seminars. There's so much to learn upon entering the world of Parent'dom.

We were lucky to have the opportunity to get in touch with Jessica of Motherburg, one of  the organizers of this child loving festival and learn what we can expect (pun intended)

Bebe Birds (BB):  Can you share how Brooklyn BabyFEST was born?

Brooklyn BabyFEST (BBF): I attended two of these events while pregnant and found them very helpful. I wanted to create an event for the expectant parent to preschool parents because my main work, Motherburg, puts parents in touch with so many wonderful vendors, service providers and people who help in their journey. This is an event that focuses on support & education.  I wanted to get everyone together in one place. Have them make connections. The stronger the community that supports parents the better. My entire mission, as always, has been supporting parents and BabyFEST is just a large-scale expression of that desire.

BB: What can the guests attending BabyFEST expect to see?

BBF:  Well, in addition to learning about all sorts of products & services there will be over 20 expert panels, demos & a keynote speaker Abby Epstein who directed The Business of Being Born and runs My Best Birth.  Attendees of Brooklyn BabyFEST can also join the dance party & enjoy food, ice cream, juices and Puppetsburg will entertain with their puppets. Tribecca Pediatrics will be bringing a clown & we will be doing a Diaper Derby sponsored by Brooklyn Based.

BB: Amazing! And a Diaper Derby?  What is that exactly?

BBF: Ha! A Diaper Derby is probably best watched

It could be the best two minutes of a show or the longest half hour.  Haha!

BB:  Haha! In addition to the Diaper Derby which talks and demos do you think will be the most popular?

BBF:  Oh, it's so hard to say!  Abby will be popular.  Caribou Baby's  Babywearing demo is always a hit.  Joyce from the NYC School Help has a great talk on preschools that parents with little ones will love.  I am excited for the "All About Dads" talk.  I don't think there has been a baby expo yet that really includes both parents and encourages dads to feel welcomed.  Also, I know "First Time Homebuyers" talk will be a hit!

BB:  Why did you choose Williamsburg as the hub for Brooklyn BabyFEST?

BBF:  As a North Brooklyner coming on 9 years now it's my hood.  It's where I hang my heart & it's a wonderful community.  I've not only seen how Williamsburg & Greenpoint have grown and changed to include more parents raising their kids but I've seen how Brooklyn has become very popular for parents.  Parent's aren't only residing in Park Slope these days.  Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo & Fort Greene are all gaining speed. And it's easy to see why:  Brooklyn has a small town feel and just minutes away from the biggest city in the United States!

BB:  What are you hoping guests of Brooklyn BabyFEST will take away after attending?

BBF:  I hope they will learn that there is a community of businesses and parenting experts they can reach out to who offer amazing development classes, places to play, ways to have fun & learn. I hope they will leave having had a great day of fun in a welcoming and educational space.

BB:  What other things do you have in store for BabyFEST?

BBF:  Did I mention my good college friend and easily one of the funniest people I know will be MC'ing the Diaper Derby?  Im also excited Josh Cohen who will be debuting his new food venture: Brooklyn Hero Co.  I love all his restaurants and I'm sure this will be no exception.

We can't wait for BabyFEST!  We are also looking forward to rocking out to Little Rock-its by Frolic! and the Baby Massage class.  Bebe Bird just loves a good massage these days.  To get your tickets to Brooklyn BabyFEST be sure to visit them here!  This is not to be missed!
