Ready or Not

Go to your blog list
Sometimes, our kids go from being infants to toddlers in a matter of 20 months moments, or so it seems.  Sometimes the days go by so slow and years so fast that this roller coaster of parenthood certainly has the ability to take us for a spin. Sometimes a milestone appears, when Bebe Bird needs to gear up and get ready for a new chapter in his grand scheme of life. It is then that I too am prompted to gear up and get ready to take yet, another plunge into the deep end.  Ready or not.

I was never one to dive into the deep end so easily.  For me, I find great comfort easing my way into most things.  Especially major things.  Remember,  Bebe Bird was a pleasant surprise for me.  I was grateful I had 30 some odd weeks of pregnancy to get used to the idea that yes, yes indeed I was about to jump into the parenting pool and into a sea of children.  I was perfectly content being pregnant.  Never wishing for the birth of Bebe Bird to be any sooner then it needed to be. I was terrified of labor, but knew I had no choice.  The deep end was waiting for me to take that plunge.  Ready or not. While some parents anxiously await for their non mobile, non verbal infants to grow up and into little people I was not that parent.  I was perfectly happy in the changing, burping, nursing stages that took over my everyday.  As Bebe Birds one year birthday inevitably approached I would tear up at the thought that such a milestone awaited us. Ready or not.

So, it was no surprise that I wasn't, and am not, really prepared for the whole nursery school business we are about to embark on.  Not just yet.  When Z's mama bird suggested nursery school to me for the boys back in May 2012 I dismissed the whole idea by simply saying "You know, that's a great idea for Z.  Bebe Bird will wait a year. He's still a little guy." You see, I don't want to push the whole growing up shenanigans. Remember, Im the  easing into things kind of gal?  Slow and steady here.  But after being in Mexico with Bebe Bird for a month I realized that he is in fact ready to dive into the deep end and try nursery school on for size.  It's only for one day each week and is a gradual separation class.  That's promising and right up our alley.  I love the idea that the classes will mainly be conducted in Spanish.  Bebe Bird can handle it. I know he can.  And this whole growing up nonsense is inevitable.  Its all part of the ride of raising kids.  They just do it.  They just grow up! Everyday they get a little taller, wiser, smarter, sillier, more independent and older.  Before our very own eyes, while we handle the responsibilities of the day to day, our bebe birds become big people.  It happens. Ready or not. Im so grateful to have Z's mama in my life. She is always ready!  Always!  And it is she who is also, always ready to push me into the deep end and encourage me to take that next plunge! Ready or not. So, Ive gathered school supplies, bought t-shirts, copied immunization records and boarded the bus this past Friday with Bebe Bird in tow to accompany him to his first day of preschool orientation.  Sometimes, you realize you just have to let them fly into the next stage of their life!  So, Nursery School, I write you proudly and say Bebe Bird and his best friend Z are heading your way!  Ready or not!
