Kale Wonderful Kale
Kale chips! So delicious and scrumptious! This yummy vegetable became a household favorite about a year ago. But it wasn't until I was boasting my cooking skillz with this new veggie in my life to my friend and vegan chef, Crystal Domsher, that I learned that kale can also be transformed into a snack. Kale chips! It's quick and easy. Because kale chips are a raw food (cooked in 40 °C/104 °F to 46 °C /115 °F) it doesn't loose the vitamins and minerals kale is known to be full of (vitamin k, iron, vitamin a, vitamin c & calcium)
Making Kale Chips at Home
1. Turn oven on its lowest temperature
2. Clean the Kale
3. Cut the Kale into small chip like pieces
4. In a large zip lock bag add olive oil and other favorite ingredients to season the kale (i.e.: sea salt, cheese powder, ranch powder-whatever tickles your fancy)
5. Place the chip like pieces of kale into the zip lock bag and rub the bag with the palm of your hand covering the kale with olive oil & flavoring.
6. Place seasoned kale onto the baking sheet.
7. Cook on low temperature for 60 minutes or until your kale chips are nice and crunchy.
And when this mama bird doesn't have an hour to spare making these delicious snacks we turn to New York Natural Kale Chips to satisfy our Kale craving. Mine and Bebe Birds favorite is the sea salt and vinegar (above) which we devour in a day or two, for approximately $6.99 a box and can be picked up at most Natural Food retailers. We get ours at the The Bad Wife in Park Slope. So, go ahead, get out there and indulge in this healthy little snack!
