First Birthday's are the Best!

Happy birthday to you, My Brooklyn Baby!

On October 8th, 2012 My Brooklyn Baby will be celebrating their first year since opening it's doors in Brooklyn's Fort Greene.   Located on Fulton Street and South Portland, this children's boutique was inspired after owner Darcy Le Flemming gave birth to her first child, daughter Nadia.  "I originally wanted to open a tea shop" noted Darcy.  After realizing that her neighborhood lacked a children's store that could meet her new daughters needs she hung up those tea pot dreams and set her sights on what would soon be known as My Brooklyn Baby.  "I've done all the research. You know, all the research new parents do?  I've done it all and its sold here." says Darcy.  Inside, you will find BPA Free products, g diaper covers, Aden + Anais, adorable crochet stuffed animals, wood trucks and stacker toys. They also sell clothing like Hank & Jojo's bamboo retro tube socks  (Bebe Birds current fave) and Egg by Susan Lazar's clothing as well as rain gear (umbrellas, boots, jackets).

What sets My Brooklyn Baby apart is how kid friendly it is.  As a new mama and shopping with her own bebe bird, Nadia, Darcy wanted her boutique to be easy for parents and baby's alike .  She installed a changing table, designed the front door so it's easier to open with a stroller, (there's a ramp  outside too).  My Brooklyn Baby also has a bench inside for mama's to sit down & take a load off as well as nurse.  If you have your tot in tow, as I had when recently in the store, you will be happy to find a play area just for them with toys from the shop, opened and ready to be played with.  Yay entertainment!  There is also healthy snacks for the bebe birds to munch on. Yay full bellies! And when paying for your goodies Darcy installed a mirror with rings at the check out counter to keep little ones entertained.

And one of the most memorable moments that happened this first year at My Brooklyn Baby was when a mother came in while in labor. "She was perfectly calm and picking out an outfit for her new baby.  Everyone else was anxious. She then left the store and walked to the hospital and had the baby shortly after. "  That new baby is a regular now.

So, Brooklynites, mark your calendars for the celebratory events and free workshops taking place all month long -(Free Cupcakes are always a wonderful treat for Bebe Bird & I)
