I Hate Crocs

Crocs are the worst! At least that's what I thought before having a water loving 1.5 year old in my life who bee lines for the sprinklers every single time he's under the Brooklyn sun.  I mean, Crocs, plastic shoes?!?!  You're kidding right?   I come from a fashion background. I've worked with major designers. I practically lived on high fashion shoots for five years. There's no way Im buying my kid those shoes. Never.

And then it happened.

It was the end of May 2012.  Playgrounds in the city transform into water parks.  And I learned that Bebe Bird is actually the #1 fan of Brooklyn water parks. Really. He dives right in (literally).  He's a feet stomping, hands splashing, hair wetting kind of a kid.  The purchase was inevitable. After many attempts to dry the hip sneaks I had so proudly purchased weeks before in the end the water got the best of 'em.  They simply wouldn't dry in time for the next outing. So, I purchased another pair of really cool sandals for the dude thinking "ok, two pairs, this will give each pair a day to dry. I'm brilliant."  But again the water won! I'm not as smart as I thought.  They wouldn't dry.  And truthfully it was silly for Bebe Bird to be rocking sneaks or sandals when running a muck in those water filled Brooklyn playgrounds.

It was Bebe Birds best friend Z who took the plunge.  Z's mama bird sung the praises of these water resistant summer shoes.  I was skeptical.  "They dry in an instant.  They slip right on." she said.  And I was at my wits end.  I had no choice.  There were a sea of colorful Crocs lining  the wall at  Windsor Shoes Too in Brooklyn. Bebe Bird chose the green ones. Yeah the green ones are cool, non?  There was the exchanging of money, the cutting of tags and the of slipping crocs onto Bebe Birds feet. Like a ray of light and holy music in the background Bebe Bird had discovered his summer shoes.  Summer shoes!  He ran to Prospect Park and into the water. He stomped, he splashed, his hair got wet.  And then it was over. We left.  His shoes dry.  I was thankful. I was wrong.  I was wrong!  I love crocs.

Just a few days after Bebe Birds Crocs purchase a friend, who went to FIT with me noticed and said "Ok, these are cool for him. But if I ever catch you wearing Crocs...EVER Ill rip them off your feet right there on the spot." I just smiled because you never know...I mean they're kind of dope.
