A vintage game of perfection still carries with it the joy and suspense as it had when I was a kid
We recently started new traditions that I hope carry over through the year and the next year and the next and…well, you catch my drift? When I was a child, every Friday night my parents would take us out to dinner. My youngest brother was an avid reader and would always be winning Book It's personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut, so more often than not we'd go there. My brothers and I would always look forward to these fun filled family meals at the Hut, even though the wait for our meal seemed to take ages, it was the change in the monotony of kid'dom and the thought of indulging in a stuffed crust pizza pie & the lure of the weekend that helped make Friday's even more golden.
When my youngest brother was in high school we started the tradition of Family Game Night every other Friday. It was so much fun even his high school friends would get in on the action. We laughed, we ate & we enjoyed. It gave us an opportunity to bond with each other and get to know his friends.
As parents to Bebe Bird we started similar traditions in our nest. Traditions, a little different than mine, but carrying with it the bonding that can be missed in the everyday. This past month we've started a "Game Day" on Sundays. We play games or do puzzles together, the three of us & the cat. This past weekend we played"Perfection". It was exciting, fun and suspenseful. When the timer was on and it was my turn or Papas turn Bebe Bird would start running into the kitchen (where we were playing) jumping on our backs then running to the family room because, the suspense would literally get the best of him. When Bebe Bird was up he'd turn the timer off before fitting in the last few pieces. When Papa was the first to succeed at placing all the small shapes into their rightful place before the buzzer "POPPED" Bebe & I cheered and chanted words of encouragement. When it was my turn & I beat the buzzer and fit all the micro pieces into their "home" Bebe and Papa hugged me. We laughed and enjoyed ourselves.
Recently, we've started doing a "Family Movie Night" on Friday evenings. Instead of bedtime stories we opt for a movie. (Lately we've been watching Wall E). It's a nice way to end the week. On Friday mornings I usually remind B2 (bebe bird) that "Tonight is Family Movie Night" He let's out a "Woohoo" before running to remind Papa who does his own little version of "Woohoo"
Sooo excited for Family Movie Night
