BIG

Our inspiration for the "Big Boy Room" taken from our friends at Allegria Boutique

Making Spaces in the Tiniest of Places: Big things are happening around here!  Instead of moving from our one bedroom Brooklyn apartment (yes one bedroom! Remember...) we've decided to stay put, save money and build up.  So up went a wall dividing our large bedroom in half.  In went a french door and voila-a new hallway and a bedroom that Bebe Bird can call his own.  Exhale went Papa Bird & I.

The new bedroom addition on the right creates a little hallway in our cozy apartment

As you may notice, there is still some work to be done, such as the construction of the big boy bed, the new moon light fixtures from ikea.  We need new shelving up and sheets ordered.  Slowly but surely we are making progress.  You see, living in a one bedroom with a toddler in New York isn't too uncommon.  This is a city that breeds creativity so New Yorkers make such living arrangements work and in a lovely fashion no less.  They inspire those around them who find encouragement that they too can stay in their one bedroom apartment after baby is born.  Now, it's certainly not for everyone.  But, surprisingly, for now, it is working for us.

"Big Boy Bed" we found on Craigs List by  P'kolino

The addition of the French Doors adds sunlight from the bedroom to the living room (pay no mind to the mirrors. I am not known for my cleaning)

And what a magical time  this age is proving to be.  2 years old has such a bad rap.  We are all well aware of the notorious "Terrible Twos".  I had my armor on ready for 2 year old battles. And battles we've had.  But, more than anything I've sat baring witness of a curious fun loving 2 year old transform from baby -------to------> boy.  And truly, it's so cool! This year we are/will be busy trading in the changing tables for potty seats, cribs for beds, strollers for scooters.  There are new opinions shared and words spoken daily.  At 2 years old their personalities come alive. As we are busy constructing a big boy room inside our apartment we are simultaneously building up the independence of a  big boy within himself.  I feel so fortunate to be a part of it all.
