Me, my brothers, sister and cousins a day after learning I was with child-a la Bebe Bird (no one knew)

3 years ago I learned I was pregnant with Bebe Bird.  Three years ago I was informed I will soon become someone's mama.  Three years ago I sat baffled in my OB's office, head spinning, trying to explain to him that the pregnancy tests I took just hours earlier were "in fact" defective because "You see, there was green ink on the box. Must be a faulty batch doc."  It was three years ago that I was first introduced to Bebe Bird and his tiny heart beat.  It was three years ago when the confusion of a new reality began to sink in and Papa Bird concluding that "we didn't plan this very well did we?"

3 years later-Lights Out  in his Big Boy Bed

He did it! He slept in his Big Boy Bed

Fast forward to Saturday, three years later. It's approximately 8am and rain is falling from the Brooklyn sky tapping on our windowsil.  We are in the kitchen, Papa Bird & I , me drinking tea, he standing at the kitchen counter,  Bebe Bird is there.  He is carefree, running around the apartment like a "nudey."  We are discussing the night before and how impressed we are that Bebe Bird slept through the night for the first time in his big boy bed. How, even though he was asleep, I woke waiting to hear him stir, to ask for "mama' or to come into our bed for part of his slumber. He didn't.  He slept.  Impressive we thought!  Then, Bebe Bird comes into the kitchen. He interupts us by declaring to no one in particular-"Now, I go potty". We smile as he sits on the potty.  "Aww look, he's such a big boy" we say. "That's so cute" we say.  We were never thinking that he would actually go.  But, he does.  He pees.  What?!?!  He went pee pee in the potty?  There was singing! There was dancing! We rejoiced right there in our bathroom.  He's jumping and screaming "I did it! Look!  I did it!"  We call grandma and tell her the good news.  He in the background still cheering.  We hang up with grandma. Then he exclaims, "Now, I go poo poos."  And sits back down on his potty.  And voila, wouldn't you know, he pooped right there in the potty!  Say what?!?!

Big Boy on the potty!

So, as we celebrate these milestones three years after learning we were to be new parents, we are reminded of what a difference a day makes.  I look back on that life changing day May 27, 2010, as being one of the greatest days of my life, because although frightened of the unknown becoming a parent is hands down one the greatest gifts I've ever been given. Now, May 25th, 2013, we witness our baby boy transform into an incredible little big boy overnight/right before our eyes.  I am forever grateful!
