Bebe Bird has been sleeping in until 7:30am these days. "GLORY BE!" I declare each morning when I look at the time...way past 6am. Followed by a Sh@$# "GET UP Papa! Wake up! School today." I mumble caveman like.
I always imagined myself as being the type of mama who is up at 6am, when the house is quiet & still. Up before everyone-the Bebe's (Papa and BB) still tucked in their nests fast asleep. In my my head I imagine myself being a 6am'er while drinking my tea, writing, meditating then waking my loves at 7:30am with a cheerful "Good morning!" and a "Breakfast is ready", the scent of bacon and eggs lingering in the background luring everyone into the kitchen.
But truth be told. That's not me.
I'm more of a 9'amer. Not a nooner but not a bright and early morning gal either.
As a 9 am'er I'm not fully awake until 9:01am. And, I'm more Zomblie like until that time.
Getting Zombie me up and out of the house by 8:30am 3 days a week has made our mornings go a little something like this:
Bebe Bird hovering over my bed: "Get out" he declares to his mama who is cozy under the covers. "Get out, Mama" he says again.
"Good morning!" I remind him with a whisper, one eye open & one eye still shut from sleep secretly hoping it is not, in fact, time to wake.
"Good morning!" he replies. Hugs follow by a little kiss.
My morning "Wake Up Call" looking oh, so innocent
Our dance -I'm on breakfast and lunch duty. Papa is on clothing duty-dressing himself & Bebe Bird. Papa's also on feeding duty-ensuring Bebe Bird actually puts something in his mouth and down to his belly. "Chew, Chew, Chew" I can over hear Papa say as I lather peanut butter onto a sandwich in the making. And then. swish. we're out the door leaving the house with unmade beds still warm from the night before and eggs still dry in the pan.
"Set your alarm" Z birds mama reminds me as she witnesses Bird "fly" into school on his scooter, wearing his superman shirt (yet again) & me with my Zombie stare only grunting at her suggestion because it's not quite 9:01am yet.
As I sit here, in one of my favorite gathering spots, sipping cappuccino & trying to wake up, the idea of needing to set the alarm doesn't seem so far fetched. Setting aside the extra self-care time in the morning is worth it. I know that. Maybe, just maybe, this 9 am'er can transition into 6:30 am'er with breakfast on the table & the scent of a freshly cooked meal still lingering the air. Crazier things have happened.
