We had the opportunity to catch up with AlexandAlexa and learn more about the upcoming fashion event!
Bebe Birds (BB): Hi there! We are so excited about Global Kids Fashion Week. What inspired you guys to organize such an event?
AlexandAlexa (AA): Well, in 2011 AlexandAlexa staged a "digital kids fashion week," filming one luxury designers new collection on a catwalk each day across the span of a week. This was a huge success with both our customers and the media. Contacts gave us the feedback that there was a gap in the market for an actual children's fashion week. Since then, we have built on our original concept for nearly two years, with the aim of creating an event which showcases the fun & playful world of children's fashion with content, such as exclusive previews of next seasons collection for the media. And consumers are able to edit the current seasons collections into seasonal trends that are available to buy now.
BB: That's amazing! From what we understand ticket's to attend the shows are open to the public and not just press and buyers. What should attendees expect to see at Global Kids Fashion Week?
AA: Guests at GKFW can expect an exciting schedule full of activities which are focused around our two main shows: On Tuesday, March 19th, we will showcase our Autumn/Winter 2013 luxury premium designers and on Wednesday, March 20th we will showcase our Spring/Summer 2013 fashion show in aid of Kids Company, with curated trends of the season from established and emerging designers. The shows are followed by after parties with fun activities, including a photo booth, children's nail bar, Kids Company charity auction and entertainment. Those not attending the event can watch Global Kids Fashion week unfold on our twitter @gkidsfw, or here (globalkidsfashionweek.com). We will be blogging live from the event and screening film of the shows at the party.
BB: For those purchasing ticket to GKFW can you share what organization the profits will go to?
AA: All the proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to our chosen charity, Kids Company, a very worthy cause that provides emotional and practical support to over 15,000 vulnerable inner-city children in London. Kids Company counsels through creativity, including fashion design and art. We will also be launching a GKFW charity auction in aid of Kids Company on Monday, March 18th and our exclusive prizes will be available to bid for online-so there are even more ways people can get involved even if they can't attend our show.
BB: What are you hoping people take away from Global Kids Fashion Week?
AA: Firstly, we hope everyone enjoys the event and has fun, for both adults and kids! GKFW is all about showing how fun and playful the kids fashion industry is. We are not replicating an adult fashion event with little people, this event is designed completely with children in mind. We'd also like to show the creativity that goes into designing clothes for children; there is a stand alone industry with an amazing array of established and up-and-coming designers.
BB: Any future plans you can share for GKFW?
AA: Lot's of ideas and plans in the pipeline. For now, we want to put on a fantastic first event and then plan on how to build on this for the next one.
